What is the difference between the NV 2.0 and the NV Base 2.0?
The racks have two differences: color and the Trail Doc (bike stand feature at the end of the rack). The NV 2.0 has a metallic finish and comes with two color options - gray with orange anodized parts or black with gray anodized parts. The NV Base 2.0 is only available in matte black. The NV 2.0 comes standard with our built-in Trail Doc work stand, while that part is sold separately for the NV Base 2.0. The carrying capacity and the ability to expand to four bikes is the same for both models.
Is the 1.25” hitch size NV 2.0 compatible with Add-Ons?
No. Only the 2” hitch size NV 2.0 model will allow Add-Ons.
Can I use multiple Add-Ons at the same time? For example, a 1-Bike Add-On plus a second 1-Bike Add-On?
No. You can only use one 1-Bike Add-On or one 2-Bike Add-On at a time.
Can I use the NV 2.0 Add-On on my original NV rack?
No. The NV rack was redesigned entirely in 2016, and the new 2.0 design will not allow the discontinued NV racks to be compatible.
I have difficulty lifting my heavy E-bike onto the trays. Do you offer a ramp for the NV 2.0 / NV Base 2.0?
Yes, you can read more about our Access Ramp here.
I see a Phat Bike Kit available for the NV 2.0 / NV Base 2.0. When should I use this accessory?
The Phat Bike Kit should be used on tires 3.25” - 5” wide and on bikes weighing over 35 lbs.
Can I lock my Trail Doc™?
No. However, if yours gets stolen, give us a call. We will replace it at no charge.
Do you sell a license plate holder for the NV 2.0 / NV Base 2.0?
Yes! You can find more information on our NV Family License Plate Mount here.
The pinhole on my 1.25” rack does not line up with my receiver.
Not a problem! The rack is designed this way. The placement of the hole on the shank of your 1.25” rack is low from the center. This placement creates a happy medium between the two hitch receiver sizes (1.25” and 2”) and their respective pinhole locations. This allows the rack to fit in either a 2” or 1.25” hitch receiver. You must use the provided 3/8” hitch pin with these racks.
Should I lubricate my ratchet arms?
No. Any lubricant that makes contact with the anodized finish may cause damage. All moving parts for the ratchet arm are internal and arrive greased from the factory.
Should I lubricate my locks?
Yes! The locks will arrive lubed from the factory. Each time you lube up your bike chain, squirt a drop or two in the lock on your rack. This will prolong their life and make them easier to use.
Can I use a bike cover/rain cover with my rack?
Absolutely not! A cover would create a significant amount of wind resistance. The extra resistance would increase the strain on your hitch rack, causing it to break.
