Introducing the Pivot XD swing away hitch – the heavy-duty evolution of our proven Pivot V2 design. Engineered for serious hauling, the Pivot XD delivers a substantial 350 lb load capacity, representing a significant upgrade. The Pivot XD is designed to be accessorized with a molle hoop and spare tire mount, which will be available soon.

Every component has been enhanced for superior performance and durability. The forged latch design provides exceptional rigidity under load, while the custom-machined safety pin works double duty, creating best-in-class stability. The included locking hitch pin and Flatlock™ Hitch Cam system work together to keep your cargo carrier securely attached. 1 Must be a chassis mounted hitch receiver. Must be less than 64” distance from the center of the rear axle to the center of the hitch pin hole.

Always check the User Guide and specifications for any change in weight capacity dependent on use. Hitch extenders and adapters should not be used when mounting the rack to an RV. Please refer to Kuat’s RV & Off-road Limitations for more information.

Pivot XD FAQ

What is the difference between the Pivot v2 and the Pivot XD?

The main difference between the Pivot v2 and the Pivot XD is weight capacity and size. The Pivot XD offers an additional 100 lbs of capacity (350 lbs vs 250 lbs) and weighs 68 lbs compared to the Pivot v2’s 39 lbs. It also features an oversized handle and a machined pin that locks the swing arm at 90° or 120°.

The Pivot v2 is available in both driver- and passenger-side versions and is suitable for most everyday setups. The Pivot XD is built for heavier-duty loads, requires a Class III hitch, and is geared toward trucks, vans, and overlanding use

Is there a 1.25” hitch size model for the Pivot XD?

No. Due to the weight capacity, the Pivot XD is only available in a dedicated 2” hitch size.
Can I use a vertical hanging rack on my Pivot XD?

No! We do not recommend this, and doing so will void your Kuat warranty.
Can I use the Pivot XD on a Class II hitch?

We do not recommend using the Pivot XD on anything less than a Class III hitch.  Read more here.
Can I use baskets or other accessories on my Pivot XD?

Sure, as long as you are under the weight capacity of 350 lbs.  We also recommend contacting the manufacturer of your cargo rack to ensure there are no issues on their end.
Can I use the Pivot XD with other hitch extensions, such as the Hi-Lo or Hi-Lo Pro?

No. We do not recommend using the Pivot v2 with any other hitch extender. Our Pivots are considered hitch extenders, and we recommend using only one extension at a time.
Is the Pivot XD RV rated?

No, the Pivot XD swing-away is not recommended for use with RVs.
Is there a Pivot XD that swings out to the driver's side?

No, not at this time. We only offer the passenger-side swing option. If you're interested in a driver-side option, consider the Pivot v2, which is suitable for most applications.
How much further will the Pivot XD position my rack away from the back of my vehicle?

The Pivot XD will extend the rack out roughly 15". Our website has specific product dimensions that will help you determine this.
What kind of maintenance is required?

Nothing crazy. Just periodically wipe down your Pivot XD and rinse it off when necessary. You will not need to lubricate any parts.  It is also a good idea to check the tightness of all bolts every so often to ensure nothing has come loose over time. 
Can I use the Pivot XD on my vehicle to tow?

No. The Pivot XD is not meant to be used as equipment for towing on a vehicle.
