Samantha Bosco
Samantha Bosco was born in Anchorage, Alaska, with a posteromedial bow of the right tibia and a calcaneal valgus foot that was corrected at the age of four by having a wedge of bone surgically removed. At the age of 11, with the dream of becoming a professional mountain bike racer already deep set, having been racing with Arctic Bicycle Club at Kincaid Park for years, Bosco underwent a limb lengthening surgery that would eliminate the two-and-a-half-inch length discrepancy. Complications and errors in the surgery had Bosco trading in her bikes for three years on crutches and seeing her dream fade away.
With permanent damage to her right leg – shorter, immobile ankle, smaller foot, impaired muscle strength and nerve damage – Bosco spent months relearning to walk and using an indoor rowing erg as a form of physical therapy, ultimately finding her way to a Division I university on a full athletic scholarship until knee injuries forced an early retirement her sophomore year. Bosco eventually found her way back to cycling in 2011, rising through the road categories as an “able-bodied” cyclist before finding out about paracycling from a friend and racing her first paracycling race in 2013. Later that same year, she made the national team and won her first bronze medal time trial at the Paracycling Road World Championships. Three years later, Bosco made her first Team USA Paralympic Games roster, winning two bronze medals at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Bosco continues to live her dream of being a professional cyclist as a member of the USA Cycling National Team. Despite a significant head injury sustained days after receiving an ESPY nomination for Best Female Athlete with a Disability and making the roster for her second Paralympic Games, ending her 2021 season, Bosco went on to become a double World Champion 14 months later. She would continue that momentum, earning more world titles, before winning gold at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Now a Paralympic Gold Medalist, 6x World Champion and 5x ParaPan American Games Champion, Bosco is currently training to take on more Paralympic Games at home while racing with Caldera Medical x Aurea Racing, testing out different flavor combinations in cake and cookie bakes, finding the best local coffee shops, pursuing entrepreneurship and mentoring future astronauts, doctors, athletes, and big dreamers.
